french polynesia

exempt from yellow fever vaccination:
children under 1 year of age.
passengers transiting countries with risk of yellow fever transmission within 12 hours if not leaving the transit areas.

travel documents:
since the recent travel effects started (seems like that was the day we returned from the last leap 2020 panama), there has been a large gap in lead times required for international passport / visa / known traveler / etc travel document processing. if your travel documents need a new issue or renewal, now is a good time to get it started. check that your documents are in order, so you are ready to travel. (fyi: aaa has great service to get everything from passport photos to expediting passport and visa services). passport info forms and fees:
https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/passports/how-apply/fees/fee-calculator.html ).

passport n visa:
at this time travelers can enter bora bora for 90 days every six months without a visa. passports must be valid for at least three months (with pre approval) and proof of onward travel may be required. proof of yellow fever vaccination may be required for entry to bora bora if arriving from a region with the virus. specifically u.s. citizens do not need a visa for tahiti / french polynesia if entering on a regular tourist passport and staying no more than 90 days every six months. proof of yellow fever vaccination may be required if arriving from a specific region.

vaccinations:
yellow fever / cv-19 / jab / test / etc. requirements (subject to change). this is and will be an altering issue between now and leap 2024 as variants expose themselves etc. at present, what is required today (thee french polynesia health registration form) may modify tomorrow. a proof of cv-19 vaccination may be required for international travelers. we highly suggest that if you have an "international certificate of vaccination" that you carry that / your yellow "international certificate of vaccination" (world health organization, proof of vaccination) card, signed by whom ever gives you your yellow fever / covid-19 vaccination. for u.s. citizens the "cdc covid-19 vaccination record card" is not required. ( as of 01nov22 testing is "not" required to re-enter the usa ). this card will also show any vax for yellow fever.

connections in japan:
thu, jun 30, 2022, ual pass travel - connections in japan
per ual newsline: if you are booking pass travel on united, with a connection in japan, there are currently some government regulations you must consider, or you will be denied boarding on your flight to japan. this includes connecting from united to another united or other airline flight, as well as connecting from another airline to a united flight. you must hold a confirmed onward booking to a destination outside of japan. you must have all documents required to travel to that destination outside of japan. your connecting flight must depart the same calendar day as your arrival in japan. no overnight stays are permitted. if connecting at nrt, you may not connect between united and a low-cost airline. we suggest revisiting this in 90 days.

usa real id enforcement:
the usa department of homeland security has extended the real id full enforcement date by 19 months, from october 1, 2021 to may 3, 2023, due to circumstances resulting from the ongoing covid-19 pandemic. on may 3, 2023, every air traveler 18 years of age and older will need a real id-compliant driver's license or identification card, state-issued enhanced driver's license, or another tsa-acceptable form of identification at airport security checkpoints for u.s. domestic air travel.

u.s. embassy:
when traveling it is very helpful to find out exactly where the u.s. embassy or consulates are located. keep the address written down in case you have a legal problem, you lose your passport, you need medical attention, or you want to report a crime. be sure to keep a copy of your passport with you (and give one to a travel partner) in case you lose the original. while there is no embassy on bora bora, there is a u.s. consul serving the region:
centre tamanu iti, 1er etage. 98718 punaauia. french polynesia. telephone:+(689) 426-535. fax:+(689) 508-096.

airfares:
there are huge $ differences in price of airfare depending on day-of-the-week vs international departure cities, especially weekday vs weekend, that you chose to travel. check a couple of days before, and/or a couple of days after and $ compare.

currency:
the money / currency in bora bora, french polynesia, is the xpf – cfp. xpf and cfp are the same currency. cfp stands for central pacific franc, whereas xpf is the symbol the currency trades under on international exchange markets.
as of 01jan24 the approximate conversion) 1 cfp franc equals = 0.009 united states dollar and/or 1.00 us dollar = 109.00 cfp francs. confused yet?
use a calculator or maybe best just to round it up/down and say “one cfp franc = one usa ¢ cent”
$1.00 (thad be 100 usa ¢ cents) = cfp 100 (thad be french polynesian central pacific francs). maybe just use your credit card.

electric plugs / sockets
what type of plugs and sockets are used in french polynesia? when you are going on a trip to french polynesia, be sure to pack the appropriate travel plug adapter that fits the local sockets for 230v. in french polynesia, types "C" and "E" are the official standards. french polynesia has standardized on the same plugs and receptacles as france, just like all other french overseas territories. since type f plugs are identical to type e plugs, they can also be used with type e sockets.

"Leap 2024"

As many of you know by now, we x2 / Donna & Rob (thad be us), were married on Leap Day 1992 (2/29/92 at 2:29) and since then we have of course had only seven (do the math) anniversaries. It has been customary to throw an adventure / leap party to celebrate our anniversary on a different continent every four years, each leap year.
For that reason, over 80 (one over) of you have joined us and have leaped All Seven Of The Great Continents, Antarctica, Africa, Europe, South America, North America, Asia and Australia.
Since it appears that we may be out of continents,
It was thus appropriate that our eighth “Leap 2024” Anniversary Party would simply be a
"Sadie Hawkins / Ladies Choice”
anywhere in the world. And the lady chose :

 A Surprise, Literally

It Was Donna’s Choice This “Leap 2024” And She Has Chosen

The Pearl of the Pacific → "Bora Bora"

That Means That You Take The Information She Will Give, Then Show Up and Surprise Us.

It’s Just That Simple

It Might Be In Fa’anui or Nunu’e or Maybe Even in Moto-Mute

DID  JA  KNOW

Advancing Now Is The "LEAP 2024" Bora Bora, Thee Party.

Bora Bora (French: Bora-Bora; Tahitian: Pora Pora) is a 30.55 km (12 sq mi) island group of the Leeward Cluster in the western part of the Society Islands of French Polynesia, an overseas collectivity of the French Republic in the South Pacific Ocean.

fyi:  The Time and Date in Bora Bora at This Moment is (→ click here ←).

The Bora Bora (Motu Mute) Airport Code Is [ BOB ].

The Wind Chill Factor Is 88°f .

The Official Island Furniture Is A Beach Chair.

The Tiny Pacific Island Of Bora Bora Is 5 x 7 miles.

The Fresh Seafood Of The Day Will Be Tuna, Mahi-Mahi, Grouper, Bonito, Parrotfish, Barracuda, Octopus, Or Maybe Even Chevrettes.

A Motu Is A Small Elongated Island That Is Formed By Broken Coral And Sand, (Also Islets). In Simple Terms, A Motu Is Just A Really Small Island. In Bora Bora, These Motus Surround The Main Island.

About 5,000 People Inhabit The Islands Of Bora Bora.

French And Tahitian Are The Main Languages Spoken Though Most Inhabitants Have A Command Of The English Language.

The Island of Bora Bora Features An Extinct Volcano, Excellent Hiking, Mountain Climbing, Deep Sea Fishing, Scuba, Shark n Stingray Feeding, Snorkeling, Loads Of Brilliant Beaches, Cuisine-ting, Boating, Diving,
 And Has Lots Of The x3-B's ( Bed-rooms Bath-rooms Bar-rooms ).

During The World War II, United States Chose Bora Bora As A Supply Outpost For Its South Pacific Fleet. It Acted As An Oil Depot, Airstrip, And Seaplane Base With Over 6000 troops.

The Delightful Beautiful Ocean Blue Water Color Is Created By The Interplay Of Light, Water And The Brilliant White-Sand, Which Carpets The Depths Of The Lagoon.

There is no ‘B’ in the entire tahitian language, originally the island was named pora pora. This means “firstborn” by the original polynesian settlers that inhabited the islands. The first european settlers to visit the island misheard and believed the natives had said bora bora.

All of french polynesia is fairly critter-free! Bora bora is free of any pests, snakes of vermin etc. most of the time you could literally go for a stroll without bug repellant, take a nap on the beach and not have to worry about insects or any critters.

Just 19 km north of bora bora, by helicopter or boat, you can take a ride to tūpai (also called motu iti), which is a coral reef formation that looks like a heart! (thad be romantic) This magical piece of nature is 11 km in area and is totally gorgeous!

Bora Bora is the meca of tattooing. tattooing is an integral part of ancient tahitian culture and was/is much more than a body ornament. tattooing indicated ones genealogy and/or rank in society. it was a sign of wealth, of strength and of the ability to endure pain. as such, chiefs and warriors generally had the most elaborate tattoos. across polynesia, there are a wealth of tattoo origin stories. the one point they all agree on is the belief that tattoos are a gift from heaven to humankind. according to tahitian legend, the sons of ta'aroa, the supreme creator, were the first beings to tat up.
